2003 - Rapid City, South Dakota
Rapid City revealed a beautifully landscaped area of the United States about 40 minutes away from the national moument Mount Rushmore. It was the first time Megan Funk competed nationally and did great! She competed as a 9 year old beginner and placed 1st in her flight and 3rd in the nation! Click here to see the flight scores from 2003 nationals. Scroll down to page 35 to see Megan's scores. Her name appears as Megan Brown, because she started the 2002-2003 year as Brown. In April of 2003 I adopted her, changing her name to Funk.
2004 - Madison, Wisconsin
In 2004, Megan went to Wisconsin to compete as an Advanced Beginner. You know what that means.. LIMBERS!! Although she did a great job on her passes, she placed 4th in her flight and 13th overall.
2005 - Hampton, Virginia
Now this was a big year. We had not one, but two tumblers from our house competing in nationals. Megan had moved up two levels to Novice, and the competition couldn't be tougher. Her passes looked great earning scores in the high 8's and low 9's, but placed 16th overall. The scores between the girls however were very close together. Zachary went for the first time to nationals competing at the beginner level, and won the national championship! He had a perfect record his first year competing taking first place at every meet. Another Flip Flop tumbler, Angela Chowen, won the National championship in her level a a Subnovice. Go Angela!! We didn't see many other Flip Flop tumblers while we were there because their times were different than ours. One exception is Kelly Jo Mollett, who competed about the same time as Megan. She can be seen in the "Kids in America" video. Click here to see the video. We got to visit Virginia Beach, Virginia and swim in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. We even brought home a bottle of Ocean water as a souveneir! It was all well worth the 16 straight hours of driving to get there, and again back home!
2006 - Louisville, Kentucky
